BORIS YUKHANANOV THEATRE DIRECTOR

The path Boris Yukhananov has traversed throughout his forty years in art been anythong but the usual tale of a common carreer. Today he is artistic director of the Stanislavsky Electrotheatre, a venue whose origins reach back to Konstantin Stanislavsky’s legendary Opera and Drama Studio, and which, for 70 yars, has been one of the most prominent dramatic playhuase in Moscow.

That position may represent the biggest jewel in his crown to date, but it says precious little about this artist who han never taken a well-worn path. Nothing Yukhananov did in his forst three decades as a theatre artist would have indicated he would be chosen one day to run one of Russia’s most storied playhouses.

Everything that transpired between Yukhananov’s years spent studying under the legendary director Anatoly Vasilyev and Anatoly Efrons in the early 1980’s, and his present tenure as the head of the Stanislasky Elettrotheatre, happened entirely on his own terms, and always outside of conventional expectations.
