OUR BOOKS ARE SPECIAL

The value of a book depends on the quality of the texts and the selection of images. Also crucial is the way the works are presented. Our layout is artistic and original. Each book is different from the previous one. Our texts are edited by theatre professors from the world’s most prestigious universities, internationally renowned critics, directors and set designers called upon to describe each work presented.

THE SETS FIRST AND FOREMOST MUST BE SEEN

Each book takes three or four months to produce; we journey through the designer’s entire artistic career. Hundreds of images are carefully selected then elaborated, the graphics are often reconstructed and interpreted, the quality of the images are a fundamental rule of our publication. Text includes essays on theatre design, exclusive interviews, testimonials, director’s notes, and set design notes.

A COLLECTION OF THEATRE BOOKS OF INTERNATIONAL DEPTH

We work passionately to make theatre designers known worldwide. To do this takes years of enterprise. We started publishing in 2002, and in 20 years we have presented thousands of projects by set designers and directors from all corners of the earth. We especially think of scenography students, and aim to stimulate their curiosity, the ability to look beyond ordinary reality. This is the first step to becoming a set designer. Without this spin, the ability to interpret reality itself, there can be no set design.

The great set designer Josef Svoboda wrote: “The most difficult thing to do in set design is an interior. Everyone thinks it’s the easiest thing, just set up three walls, a ceiling, if you need a floor and that’s it: just vary the style. But so it’s not a dramatic space…. It’s just a room…” This is why our books are fundamental to the study of set design because they feature a hundred rooms interpreted in a hundred different ways by a hundred set designers.  Our books are an added value to every production design course in universities and Academies of Fine Arts around the world.
