WILSON CHIN

Scenic designer

Wilson Chin is an award-winning set and production designer from Redwood City, CA and based in New York City. Wilson designed the playy Next Fall on Broadway, nominated for two Tony Award including Best Play, and Cost of Living, which won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the Lortel Award for Best New Play. He production designed the feature film Pass Over directed by Spike Lee, based on the stage play by Antoinete Nwandu and directed by Danya Taymor at Steppenwolf and Lincoln Center Theater. Pass Over also won the Lortel Award for Best New Play, and Wilson was nominated for his set design. Wilson designed Lucia di Lammermoor at the Lyric Opera of Chicago (starring Susanna Phillips) and won the Dora Award for A Florentine Tragedy and Gianni Schicchii at Canadian Opera Company.
In New York, Wilson has designed at Ars Nova, Atlantic Theater Company, Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center Theater, Manhattan Theatre Club, Ma-Yi
Theatre, Minetta Lane Theatre, Naked Angels, New  York Stage & Film, Playwrights Horizons, Playwrights  Realm, Primary Stages, The Public Theater, Roundabout  Theatre Company, and Second Stage.
He was also an assistant/associate designer for over a dozen Broadway  productions. Regional credits include productions at ACT, Alliance Theatre, Arena Stage, Berkeley Repertory Theatre,  Center Theatre Group, Denver Center Theatre, Geffen Playhouse, Goodspeed Musicals, Guthrie Theatre,
Hartford Stage, Huntington Theatre Company, La Jolla Playhouse, Long Wharf Theatre, The Old Globe, Seattle  Repertory Theatre, Signature Theatre, Steppenwolf, Williamstown Theatre Festival, and Yale Repertory  Theatre.
His collaborations with writers and composers include  world premieres by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, Nick  Blaemire, Sam Carner and Derek Gregor, Julia Cho, Joe  DiPietro, Larissa FastHorse, Marcus Gardley, Ricardo  Pérez González, Lauren Gunderson, Samuel D. Hunter,  Elizabeth Irwin, Rolin Jones, Hansol Jung, Meghan  Kennedy, Jason Kim, Mike Lew, Kenneth Lin, Andrew  Lippa, Martyna Majok, Terrence McNally, Conor McPherson, Carly Mensch, Anna Moench, Geoffrey  Nauffts, Antoinette Nwandu, Dan O’Brien, Billy Porter,  Harrison David Rivers, Sharyn Rothstein, Mat Smart, Victoria Stewart, Jeff Talbott, Lucy Teitler, Ken Urban, Lauren Yee and Martín Zimmerman.
Wilson has been a visiting teacher/lecturer at Northwestern University, NYU Tisch, SUNY Purchase, UC Berkeley, University of North Carolina School of Drama and Yale School of Drama. He is a member of United Scenic Artists Local 829, where he serves as an elected Eastern Region Board Member. Wilson received his BA in Architecture from UC Berkeley and MFA from the Yale School of Drama.
